The Project
The $30M Donnybrook Road project encompasses 2.5kms of road upgrades to improve connections and movement for the 4000 Merrifield residential lots along the road frontage. The project is an interim upgrade of the rural and functioning Donnybrook Road to an urban arterial road, with consideration given to the next stage of upgrades.
Our involvement
Verve Projects were engaged to manage a number of challenges. Due to the unique hydrological conditions in Mickleham, side entry pits were required every 18m to retain gutter flow widths within AustRoads guidelines. The road had to be operational during construction, requiring extensive traffic management and carefully planned construction methodology for the creation of the southern carriageway prior to the traffic switch and upgrade of the northern carriageway. Extensive earthworks were required with the highest adjustment of the road levels up to 3m. These challenges required specialist management and expertise.
The result
The upgrade consisted of the delivery of 2.5km of arterial road duplication, including: authority asset relocations, 300mm High Voltage duplication, kiosks and switching stations for three signalised intersections, large culvert rectification works and installation of 3m wide dual 100yr ARI culvert arrangements for Melbourne Water and deep sewer reticulation (up to 8m deep), and both drinking and non-drinking water reticulation. The duplication delivers the interim arrangement of 2-lanes both eastbound and westbound while providing for the ultimate arrangement of three lanes in each direction. Verve Projects were proud to help deliver this project in time for the Merrifield City opening in 2020.
